..."the wine is truly tantalizing. It's a perfect
blend of grassy aromas and sunshine-drenched tropical
fruit flavors that are held in check by a refreshing
acidity. It's friendlier than an austere Sancerre
and less over-the-top than a Sauvignon Blanc from
New Zealand."... |

A
Match Made in Wine and Cheese Heaven
by Edward Deitch, March 27, 2007
"The South
African sauvignon,
with its notes of pink grapefruit, pineapple, herbs and pronounced minerals,
is a refreshing counterpoint to the hot cheese and isn't about to be overpowered
by it. The
wine is highly expressive yet elegant."...
"The (New Zealand) wine shows
more tropical fruit than the tart gooseberry that characterizes most Kiwi sauvignons.
The wine pairs beautifully with the goat cheeses. Beyond cheese, both wines will
match well with fish, including sushi, and chicken."...

“...there is little doubt that [South African] Sauvignon Blanc
has
great potential. Some of the best I’ve tasted have come from the
renowned South African producer Neil Ellis, but Sauvignon Republic’s
effort from Stellenbosch in 2007 doesn’t have to take a back seat
to
anyone. This is a stylish Sauvignon that delivers a complex nose of
grapefruit and fresh herbs, with an undertone of ripe tropical fruit and
a mineral-laced palate. Clean, refreshing and delicious, with no
influence from oak.” |

Sauvignon Republic 2006 Marlborough
Sauvignon Blanc
"This bright, bracing New Zealand sauvignon blanc comes from Sauvignon Republic...
...New Zealand sauvignons typically display vibrant citrus fruit flavors with
an undertone reminiscent of green berries or fresh herbs. Their flavors almost
shout from the glass, and so they are guaranteed to keep taste buds tingling.
In recent years, they also have tended to show a hint of sweetness, and this
rendition does just that. The result is a vivacious white that never seems tart
or sour. Top-notch sauvignon blanc is a great warm-weather wine, as its vivacious
personality cuts right through summer heat and humidity. Although this wine's
flavors prove forceful, it is fairly light-bodied and will pair best with equally
light summer fare such as chicken or seafood salads, gazpacho and, in this neck
of the woods, Chesapeake Bay crab." |

“Intense canned asparagus with smoky, mineral, minty
notes. On the palate the wine is dry and fresh with a bit of the old-style
canned jalapeno, asparagus flavours mixed with lemon-lime and grapefruit.
Intense full-blown, peppery sauvignon with a touch of sweet and sour
juicy lime rind. Green lipped mussels anyone.”

“Wow, almost riesling, in sauvignon clothing. Brisk
minerality, fresh lemon-lime but not overpowering as Marlborough version
cam is. Vibrant chalky mid-palate mixing limes, herbs and grass in the
finish. Not as intense as some but that probably contributes to its food
friendly styling. Sip all summer on the patio with a wide range of appetizers.” |

..."The grapes for this wine, from one of South Africa's
prime grapegrowing regions, were picked in late March and early April, so this
is no "nouveau" — it's a
fully mature wine, ready to enjoy now, with nicely balanced flavors of pineapple,
lime and green apple, food-friendly acidity and a medium-long finish. Drink
it with fish, fowl or vegetarian dishes and toast to the best things that happened

stellar Stellenbosch region. Only stainless steel, no oak or malolactic, gives
this wine an inviting freshness with hints of passion fruit and lime juice. The

and clean with good length.” |
