Vintage
2005
The growing season was classic-cool, long and slow, maximizing the benefits
of hang-time. Sauvignon is a fairly early-maturing grape, and since 04 had been
one of the earliest harvests in memory, everyone expected coolness of 05 to
shift us back to historical average harvest dates. As it developed, delayed
bud break for some varieties and delayed flowering for most, together with later
rains encouraging stronger vine growth, pushed harvest dates quite late. Nothing
but good news resulted, however, since relatively cool weather throughout bought
time for superb flavor development in Sauvignon with the added benefit of great
acid retention.
